The Virtual Experience

In order to protect the health and safety of our 2020 Annual Convention attendees, sponsors, and community, we have made the decision to make the 2020 Convention a virtual event over the same days, June 11-13. We are committed to creating a phenomenal experience that will engage, inspire, and connect you to Insurance Professionals.

Tips for an enjoyable virtual experience:

  • Your Device: Use a laptop or desktop computer to join the Virtual Convention. Joining to hear only the audio from a phone will give you just a fraction of the content and virtual experience.
  • Download Zoom: Zoom will download automatically when you start or join your first Zoom meeting. It is also available for manual download. Pro Tip: Zoom recently released an updated version with enhanced security and increased meeting data protection. After May 30, all Zoom clients on older versions will receive a forced upgrade.
  • Test your System: Join a Zoom meeting prior to the IAIP Virtual Convention to make sure your system works. Join an IAIP Happy Hour or the May Town Hall to give Zoom a test drive.
  • Watch for the Zoom Links to Join: When you register, you will receive a unique link to join for each day of the Virtual Convention. Watch your inbox and the Convention 2.0 Group Page (only available to registered attendees) for access to attend the Convention.
  • Plan to Engage: During the IAIP Virtual Convention, plan to engage, chat, submit questions, participate in polls and more. The chat feature will allow you to say “hello” to all attendees, share ideas, and ask for help. The Q&A feature is where you should ask the presenter questions for a richer, more impactful experience.
  • Get Comfortable: Three days of education, networking and celebrations are planned. With plenty of breaks between sessions and opportunities for engagement, FIT activities and chances to win prizes scattered throughout, you are sure to be entertained. Plan to get comfy for the online experience but view your room set up with a critical eye: is it a place that has a lot of distractions that will take your focus away from the sessions? Is it in a quiet place where your family (pets included) won’t interrupt you?
  • Promote Your #IAIP2020 Presence: Let your followers know you’re Connecting Members and Building Careers with IAIP. Share what you’re learning with your social media network by making posts that include the hashtag #IAIP2020.

 

Virtual Happy Hour Tips

Get camera-ready to engage during Virtual Happy Hours! Join a virtual happy hour leading up to convention and plan to join your Regional Happy Hour on Friday, June 12. Virtual Happy Hours are your opportunity to chat with fellow IAIP members. So prepare to unmute your microphone and start the video on your camera.

  • Dress to impress: Unlike the Virtual Convention, for the Happy Hours you will be on video, so be sure to dress for the camera. Also be mindful of any accessories or jewelry if you are expressive with your hands as the noise and movement can be quite distracting.
  • Be aware of your background: Not only will we see and hear you, we will see and hear everything around you. Find a quiet place free of visual and noise distractions. If you must be in a loud environment, using a headset with a mic often reduces background noise compared with your computer’s built-in microphone. Pro Tip: A headset is a general best practice for higher-quality audio than other built-in options or phone connections. So, if you want to be heard over your fellow attendees, grab a headset!
  • Help us protect against Zoom bombers: Don’t share Zoom links with others and keep it a positive experience for everyone attending.
